PANAJI: The swimming pool complex and Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, Goa, was today inaugurated at Manohar Parrikar Sports Complex, Campal, Panaji.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Govind Gaude, the chief guest for the function, promised Government’s support in encouraging sporting talent in Goa.
“Let’s create history in sports in Goa,” he said while exhorting the young to take benefit of the sports infrastructure in Goa. Gaude further said that sporting results can’t be achieved in a fortnight, but it requires hard work and a burning desire to achieve. Sports contribute to the good health of an individual, he added.
Secretary, Sports, Shri Ajit Roy, IAS, in his address, said that the idea of having Khelo India Centres of Excellence was to help identify sporting talent. He asked parents to send their children to these centres to let them play and learn from expert coaches they have taken on board.
He said sports builds character and added that the time had come for India to impact the sporting world.
Present at the function, which was organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sports Authority of Goa were Collector, North Goa, Ms Mamu Hage, IAS, Mayor, Corporation of the City of Panaji, Rohit Monserrate, Regional Director, Sports Authority of Goa, Smt. Susmita R Jyotsi and Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Ajay Gaude, among others.
