NEW VADDEM: A house belonging to Shiva Kesavulu Devarakonda in New Vaddem, Vasco, caught fire on Thursday evening. While the cause of the fire remains unknown, residents suspect it may have been due to a short circuit. Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported.
According to local residents, the occupants were not home when the fire broke out. Neighbors noticed smoke coming from the house and quickly alerted the fire department and electricity authorities. Before the firefighters arrived, locals used water from their homes in an attempt to contain the blaze, but the smoke had already turned into an inferno, rapidly spreading across the house.
Vasco fire station in-charge Dilip Bicholkar said the department received the emergency call around 6:30 p.m. “We responded immediately, but faced difficulties reaching the site due to numerous vehicles parked on the narrow road,” Bicholkar said. “We urge residents not to park on narrow streets to ensure access for emergency vehicles.”
Despite these obstacles, the firefighters managed to control the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighboring houses. Preliminary estimates suggest damages of up to Rs 4 lakh, though the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fire officials have advised locals to exercise caution with electrical connections and avoid parking in ways that obstruct emergency access.
