PANAJI: Even as COVID19 cases crossed the 100 mark, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today ruled out imposing restrictions in the state.
CM Sawant also informed that state government might think of making COVID vaccination compulsory.
“We are monitoring the situation in the state and being a tourist centric state we cannot go ahead imposing restrictions in a hurried manner said CM Sawant
He further said that many tourists have come down to Goa for the festival season and thinking of the economy, the state cannot impose restrictions.
CM Sawant said that additional restrictions have not been imposed as of now as it is festive as well as tourist season in the State. But everyone needs to take precautions, he said.
“Task force meeting will be held on January 3 and after that a decision will be made on imposing restrictions,” he added
CM Sawant attributed that rise in COVID19 cases to a wedding that took place in state in which international guests were a part.
“Vaccination is the only way to stop and curb COVID19 virus, I urge people to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible without any delay,'” CM said
The Chief Minister also said that state government will think of making COVID19 vaccination mandatory.
“If people do not go for vaccination, we will have to make vaccination mandatory,” said CM
“We have not imposed any restrictions in the state and also no night curfew during this festive season, but I urge people to follow all COVID protocols set up by the state government,” he added.
CM Sawant also informed that an expert committee meeting will be held on Monday, following which a detailed advisory shall be issued to the public.
Goa reported 112 COVID-19 positive cases today.
