PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that Mangroves have been providing Goa and our communities endless benefits and protection; hence its protection and conservation are extremely important.
“Mangroves have been providing Goa and our communities endless benefits and protection; hence its protection and conservation is extremely important,’ said Rane.
He further said that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the Preservation of Trees Act 1984.
“I have directed DCF & Forest Department officials to inspect and report on the mangroves along the Panaji-Chimbel stretch,” he added.
Rane also said that he has instructed them to work with WRD Dept to determine whether the flow of water to mangroves is being obstructed by construction activity.
The minister said that the protection of wildlife is an important aspect of the Forest Department, and under the Wildlife Protection Act, we are committed to safeguarding and protecting the country’s wildlife (flora and fauna).
