PANAJI: Former members of the Gomantak Bhandari Samaj committee have announced a boycott of the Annual General Meeting scheduled for May 10, protesting the State government’s decision to appoint an Administrator to manage the community body.
Addressing the media, former committee member Devanand Naik said the decision was unfair and imposed without consulting the Samaj. He stated that the organisation’s income is generated through certificates and community-related activities, and the financial burden of maintaining the Administrator, including salary and travel expenses, would now fall on the Samaj itself.
Naik alleged that the appointment was made to favour certain individuals and claimed the move had caused injustice to the Bhandari community. He further informed that the matter has been challenged before the High Court and is expected to come up for hearing in June.
The former committee members have maintained that they do not recognise the appointment of the Administrator and will abide by whatever verdict is delivered by the court.
