VASCO: Vasco police managed to quickly arrest a thief who had stolen the bike of Jenifer Almeida, the wife of former Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida
Surprisingly, the thief, who is a habitual offender used the stolen bike to move around the city and its suburbs for a few days till he was caught by the Vasco police.
The accused, a 21 year old Vinayak Rane, a resident of Sada, was arrested by the Vasco police on Wednesday and has been sent to 15 days of judicial custody
According to information available from sources in Vasco police station, the bike of Jenifer Almeida was stolen from the basement of a housing colony which is a gated complex and also has a security
The grey colour Jupiter Bike (GA06 Q8819) was stolen from below the flat of Former Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and his son filed a complaint in this regard with the Vasco police station.
The bike was stolen somewhere between the 30th of June and 1st July and the complaint was filed at the police station on Monday.
The Vasco police immediately swung into action and began patrolling and during one of the patrolling duties on Wednesday, Vasco police staff Purshottam Naik and Santosh Bhatkar noticed a person roaming on a grey bike near the MPT ground at Baina.
The police suspected the bike to be the same stolen bike but the accused had been riding it without both the number plates. The Vasco police staff then got the accused, Vinayak Rane a habitual offender, along with the bike to the Vasco police station.
The police then verified the chassis number of the bike and realised that it was the same bike that was stolen from below the house of Carlos Almeida.
The Vasco police arrested the accused and he was produced before the JMFC on Wednesday, where he was granted 15 days of judicial custody.
