Panaji: In a scathing attack on the BJP government and the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who incidentally holds the home portfolio, the president of Goa Forward Party Vijai Sardesai said that the BJP Govt’s abject failure to maintain law and order in the state has encouraged notorious gangs to roam the streets and engage in crimes with impunity. Frequent gang wars and rising crime have destroyed the image of Goa as a peaceful and safe family destination, and made life for the common Goemkars fearful and insecure.
“If he can’t provide safety and security to the people of Goa, then he should immediately resign. His role as Home minister has seen serious crime in the state escalating like never before, and his shameful incompetence is costing lives”. The Fatorda MLA charged.
He accused the BJP for tarnishing the image of this tiny state. “Goa is known as a great, glorious and golden state, with a rich culture, heritage and hospitable people. We also have a history of fighting against crime, and standing for justice. But this BJP government by its lackadaisical and cowardly approach has destroyed it.” Sardesai said.
“Thanks to Pramod Sawant, Goa is now all about gangs, guns and goondas. Goan families need safety and security that this government has failed to provide.” Sardesai pointed out.
Sardesai had very forcefully raised the issue of law and order on the floor of the State Assembly but with no strong response from the government. Sawant’s impotence and indifference as a home minister are being exploited by organised gangs and all kinds of criminals to create a foothold in this state.
“Rapes and robberies have already become a daily routine, now gang wars have been added into it. This is a direct consequence of the government’s lethargy, and the inadequacy of the administration to discharge their fundamental constitutional duties.” Sardesai said.
“Goans know that this BJP government is on notice period, but why should the people suffer even for a minute?” Sardesai added.
