VASCO: Vasco, Baina, Mangor hill, and Sada areas went dark without electricity at midnight during this hot summer on Wednesday.
A gas pipeline contractor accidentally damaged three underground electricity cables, giving power supplied to Vasco and peripheral areas of Port town.
During this hot summer and humid nights, the Bogda, Baina, Mangor and Sada areas went dark, and the locals from these areas were irked after they faced a power failure for several hours due to the damaged underground cables.
Some locals expressed their dismay over the power disruption during midnight. They questioned why these works are being taken up at midnight, and people are being unnecessarily troubled.
Later, Sanjeev Mashelkar, Assistant Engineer of Electricity department Vasco, informed that he rushed near Borges building in Vasco after learning about the incident.
He said that three underground electricity cables were damaged by an underground gas pipeline contractor while they were doing some digging work for laying their gas pipeline.
He further informed that he will be filing a police complaint in this regard, and tentatively, the gas pipeline contractor has been instructed to do cable detection and only after that to continue the digging work to avoid further accidents,” Mashelkar said.
Further, it is expected that the power will resume at around 4 pm on Thursday. The incident took place at around 1 am. This means that the people from Sada, Mangor hill, Baina etc. will be without electricity for almost 14 to 15 hours.
