PANAJI: The resort in Calangute that was built inside the 200-meter no-development zone of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) of the coastal community needs to be demolished, according to a directive from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
All unauthorized buildings on the land, including cottages, a swimming pool, a reception building with a security cabin, cement flooring, a compound wall, landscaping, and a restaurant/shack, are to be taken down by the property’s owner, Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes.
In addition, the judgment of April 12 mandates that the coastal authority calculate the environmental expenses associated with the promoters’ CRZ violations and restore the property to its previous condition within 30 days.
The Calangute Constituency Forum and the Goa Foundation both filed complaints about the development.
Following the High Court’s resolution of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that the Goa Foundation had brought, the GCZMA made its decision.
It is important to remember that the Calangute Panchayat has already issued directives prohibiting Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes and Amara by the Sea (Calangute) from building illegally within the 200-meter no-development zone of the Calangute village community reserve.
Eight concrete buildings with concrete foundations, each with three to four rooms, a swimming pool, a sewage treatment plant (STP), and other facilities were built at the site, according to earlier GCZMA inspections. But the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by GCZMA was limited to temporary wooden dwellings.
In addition, Amara by the Sea’s request for approval under the Air and Water Acts has been denied by the GSPCB.
