PANAJI: Calangute BJP MLA Michael Lobo today demanded legalizing or regularizing around 5000 odd commercialized residential structures, existing prior to 1991, located in the no development zone along the coastal belt.
Lobo said that these structures, which are part of the extension of the existing houses, have come up with an expansion of families.
He said that these commercial structures are basically run by Goans to sell local products like pickles, etc.
“They even pay house tax to the concerned panchayat,” Lobo said.
The MLA further claimed that all these houses and structures are on Panchayat records and they have all legal documents including permissions from health, FDA, and excise and so also water and power connections
“Government need to amend either Panchayat Raj Act or TCP Act, with retrospective effect to give relief to these locals,” he added.
Independent MLA Reginaldo also backed the move and said that the relaxation is been sought only for existing structures and not new structures.
“The move is not to encourage illegal activities or structures or allow new lobbies or anything as such,” he added
