CORLIM: Tense situation prevailed outside the premises of company in Corlim when hundreds of workers protested demanding compensation to the family of deceased.
As per information, the workers said that a co-worker died inside company premises after a slab had collapsed on him resulting in death on spot.
“It’s been 4 days the company as well as contractor are not saying a word. We demand compensation for the victim’s family. This is injustice meted out to all the workers,” said a protesting worker
He said employers were constantly pushing their workers into extremely risky work conditions and avoided taking measures for their protection, but the government had turned a blind eye to the grave issue.
He further said that it is the moral duty of the contractor and company to pay compensation to the victim’s family.
“The worker who died was a 25 year old from Uttar Pradesh. We demand compensation to his family. It’s their right, there is no action on Engineer,” he added
The protesting workers claim that Company has not been taking any risk.
The workers also demanded stringent action against the directors and the officials of the factory for falling to take care and caution of the safety of labourers working at the site.
It may be recalled that, a 22-year-old worker died while working in a eight meter deep sewage chamber at Kapileshwarim Kavlem and a case of criminal negligence was registered against the contractor for failing to provide safety gear to employees.
Similarly, a 19-year-old passerby died of electrocution at the sewage site near PMC last year.
