The Class XII results saw 89.27 per cent students pass the Goa Board of High Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination 2020. In all 17,183 students appeared for the exam, of which 15,339 cleared it.
Announcing the results, Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) chairman Ramakrishna Samant said that for the academic year 2019-20, the total pass percentage stood 89.27, which is almost equal to that of 2019 which was 89.59 per cent.
Students obtained cent per cent marks in mathematics, physics, biology, psychology, and economics, which helped the overall pass percentage of the students.
“If you see the results, students have scored 100 out of 100 in papers like mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, economics, psychology. This helped in the overall passing percentage also,” the chairman said.
Just 15.71 per cent students managed to score between 75-100 per cent marks, while 38.03 per cent students scored first class, 37.57 per cent candidates obtained second class and 7.90 per cent students were placed in the pass class.
In keeping with the annual trend, the results saw girls outshine boys with an overall pass percentage of 90.94, while that of boys stood at 87.43 per cent. Samant said that of the 9,004 girls, who answered the exams, 8,188 cleared it with a pass percentage of 90.94 per cent. Total 7,151 boy students cleared the exams out of 8179 who appeared.
The commerce stream topped the chart with 92.82 per cent students clearing, followed by science 88.96 per cent, vocation 84.45 per cent and arts 85.30 per cent.
The HSSC examinations were held from February 26, however, they were halted in mid-March due to the COVID outbreak. Exams for three papers were held in May.
A total of 938 candidates registered under repeater/ITI category, 392 candidates cleared it giving pass percentage of 41.79.
Though, total 3098 students have availed sports marks, only 147 candidates were passed using the sports merit marks. The percentage of students passing with sports merit marks is 0.81.
Cujira centre (96.67 per cent) recorded the highest passing percentage, while Ponda centre recorded the lowest (81 per cent).
Responding to a question, Samant said the marksheets of the students would be made available to the schools latest by July 7. “The delay is due to COVID crisis as the marksheets are printed outside Goa. Also, we are finding it difficulty in getting the required stationary,” he explained.
