PANAJI: The Goa State Commission for Backward Classes has approached the High Court seeking a two-month extension to submit empirical data on the population of Backward Classes in connection with the municipal elections.
The Commission filed its application after the High Court, in its judgment dated August 25, directed it to furnish the empirical data to the State Election Commission by September 16.
The data is linked to the process concerning reservation for Backward Classes in the upcoming municipal elections.
With the September 16 deadline having passed, the Commission has sought additional time to complete and submit the required empirical data.
The matter is scheduled to come up for hearing before the High Court on September 23, when the court is expected to consider the Commission’s request for an extension.
