PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has directed the police force to act firmly against individuals who attempt to intimidate, confront, assault or obstruct police personnel while they are performing their duties.
Addressing the media, Sawant said the government and people of Goa have traditionally maintained a calm and considerate approach towards law enforcement, but warned that such patience should not be mistaken for weakness or exploited by those who show disrespect towards police personnel.
“I have given full authority to our police force. Going forward, the police must act firmly under the law,” Sawant said.
He stated that anyone attempting to confront, assault or obstruct police officers in the discharge of their duties must face strict legal action.
The Chief Minister stressed that the primary responsibility of the police is to protect the public and maintain law and order.
He said law enforcement personnel must demonstrate strong and decisive policing whenever individuals attempt to overpower or interfere with them.
Sawant also emphasised that there should be no tolerance for acts that undermine police authority or disrupt the discharge of official duties.
