MORMUGAO: Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar has hit out at Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) for failing to abide by its own order stating that all heavy vehicles would be well-covered with tarpaulin and wheels washed.
Amonkar has also been forced to stop all transportation from gate no 9 if MPA fails to abide by its order.
“I will be forced to stop all transportation from Gate no 9 if MPA does not abide by its own orders stating that all heavy vehicles should move from Gate no 1, well covered with Tarpaulin and wheels washed at MPA,” said Amonkar.
He further said that people face traffic congestion and pollution because MPA takes people of Mormugao very casually.
The BJP MLA further demanded that the MPA call for an emergency meeting today to discuss the vexed issues.
“If the meeting is not called, then he said that the gate would be blocked,” he added.
He also said that several recommendations given to the Port to control pollution in the town were not adhered to.
He said that the Port Authorities took the locals for granted, which would not be tolerated.
Amonkar said that MPA had said all transportation vehicles must be properly covered with tarpaulin, and empty trucks returning to the Port must be cleaned at the previous destination.
“The MPA had even warned that non-compliance of these measures will be viewed strictly and also include debarring of the transporter and trucks,” MLA said.
