Panaji: The Department of Science, Technology and Waste Management, Govt. of Goa, being the Nodal Department to undertake GI registrations for various Goan items/produce such as agricultural, handicrafts, food items and handloom has designated Goa State Council for Science and Technology for initiating the required process and work as a facilitator for the said work.
The five GI applications filed for production, viz. Goan bebinca, Goa Malcorada Mango, Sat Shiro then, Goa Cashew and Agasechi Vayingim are examined by the GI Registry and accepted for further processing.
Further, GI applications are also filed for Korgut rice, Taleigao brinjal and Manghilar mango where, where GI applications for Goan Sausages, coconut shell items, kunai saree and Goa Cashew (nut and apple) and Goa Mussarat mango are to be filed shortly.
The producers/farmers associated with producing the above products are requested to join this mission by becoming members of the respective producer’s associations.
