PANAJI: Governor of Goa, Shri. P.S.Sreedharan Pillai has extended his heartiest greetings to the people of Goa on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa.
Shri. Pillai in his message has said that, Gudi Padwa is locally called Saunsar Padwa in Goa, which marks the commencement of the traditional New Year and is celebrated with much enthusiasm.
Gudi Padwa is one among such important festivals which marks the dawn of divine consciousness and the advent of the spring. The celebration of this traditional festival brings an opportunity to understand the unique culture of India. It also reminds us to respect each other and live together in perfect harmony and social solidarity by resolving our differences and difficulties in a mutually- acceptable manner, he added.
The Governor has also extended his heartiest greetings on the auspicious occasion of Ugadi, Yugadi and Cheti Chand. May the celebration of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Yugadi and Cheti Chand this year bring immense happiness and greater prosperity to one and all, Governor concluded.
Joining the people in celebrating Gudi Padwa or ‘Padvo’ in the State, Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant wished the people a very happy festival. Highlighting the significance of the occasion, he said the day marks the beginning of the New Year in the Hindu calendar. “This occasion celebrates the beginning of the spring season and spring symbolises life and the start of all things joyful. May the beauty of this festive spirit fill your hearts with peace, joy and love,” he said.
On this day, people raise a ‘Gudi’ atop their houses as a symbol of welcoming good into their homes. Dr Sawant said that the festival is a happy moment for all and is an invitation to start something fresh and new.
The Chief Minister further hoped that the New Year brings prosperity and peace to all people and urged everyone to work in a spirit of cooperation.
