PANAJI: Marking Goa Revolution Day, Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant extended their greetings to the people, paying homage to the heroes of the liberation movement and calling for collective efforts toward a developed and self-reliant Goa.
Governor Pillai reflected on the events of June 18, 1946, describing it as a landmark in Goa’s freedom struggle. He highlighted the pivotal role played by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr. Julião Menezes, whose protest in Margao sparked a civil disobedience campaign against Portuguese colonial rule. The Governor urged Goans to honour the legacy of the freedom fighters and commit themselves to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, Viksit Goa 2047.
Chief Minister Sawant, in his message, underlined the importance of ‘Kranti Din’, calling it the beginning of open resistance that eventually led to Goa’s liberation on December 19, 1961. He praised the courage of those who rose against colonial rule and urged citizens to protect the values of independence while striving for progress in all areas of development.
The day was observed across Goa with tributes to the martyrs and renewed pledges to uphold the ideals they fought for.
