PANAJI: After persistent efforts and constant follow-up by Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai, the Government of Goa has taken a significant step towards preserving the ecological and cultural heritage of the state.
The Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) has officially written to the Veling-Priol Village Panchayat, urging them to adopt a resolution in the Gram Sabha to declare ‘Jayanche Molle’ as a Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS).
This move comes as a result of consistent persuit by Shri Vijai Sardesai and the Goa Forward Party, who have emphasized the importance of conserving Goa’s unique biodiversity and cultural landmarks. ‘Jayanche Molle’, a site of immense ecological and historical significance, has long been a focal point for conservation efforts in the state.
In the past, there were alarming attempts to burn these cultivations to facilitate the development of these lands by builders. This issue was raised by the Goa Forward Party in the Legislative Assembly, highlighting the urgent need to protect ‘Jayanche Molle’ from such destructive activities. The party’s relentless efforts have now led to the government taking concrete steps towards its preservation.
In its communication to the Veling-Priol Village Panchayat, the GSBB has outlined the necessary steps to be taken under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, and its amendments.
The Village Panchayat and the local Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) have been requested to convene a Gram Sabha to pass a resolution supporting the declaration of ‘Jayanche Molle’ as a BHS. Once the resolution is adopted, the GSBB will guide the local bodies through the formal process of notifying the site as a Biodiversity Heritage Site.
Shri Vijai Sardesai expressed his satisfaction with the government’s action, stating, “This is a significant step towards preserving Goa’s natural and cultural heritage. ‘Jayanche Molle’ is not just a piece of land; it is a symbol of our identity and our commitment to sustainable development. I urge the Veling-Priol Village Panchayat to act swiftly in adopting the resolution.”
The declaration of ‘Jayanche Molle’ as a BHS will ensure its protection and conservation for future generations, while also promoting awareness about the importance of biodiversity in the region. The Goa Forward Party remains committed to working with the government and local communities to safeguard Goa’s natural and cultural treasures
