PANAJI: Minister for Women and Child Development Vishwajit Rane has said that his department has roped in IIT Bombay to the overall nutrition of newborns and pregnant mothers, particularly emphasizing adolescent nutrition.
Rane said, “To formalize the collaboration between IIT Bombay and the Departments of Health and Women and Child Development (DHS & WCD), a meeting was held today in presence of representatives of IIT Bombay Dr. Rupal Dalal and Dr. Devji in presence of Health Department and women and child Department officials.”
He said the focus of the meeting was to outline how IIT Bombay could contribute to the overall nutrition of newborns and pregnant mothers, particularly emphasizing adolescent nutrition. “The key areas identified included facilitating proper nutrition for pregnant women, addressing lactation concerns for newborns, infants supporting healthy weight and height growth in children, and working towards reducing diabetes and hypertension in future generations,” Rane says.
Rane says this will further help to educate and help the people of Goa immensely with respect to their Nutrition across various stages of one’s life cycle.
“To ensure effective implementation, staff training will be a crucial component, adopting a “train-the-trainer” approach. We will enter into a tripartite agreement, furthermore, a notified gazette committee will be established to evaluate the impact of the training, underscoring the commitment to the success of this collaboration,” he said.
