Panaji: The Goa government has announced the phased implementation of the Goa State Heritage 2025 project, aimed at restoring and preserving the state’s architectural legacy. A total of 122 heritage houses have been identified for restoration and maintenance under the plan.
Announcing the initiative, Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said the project will be carried out in a phased manner over five years. As part of the initiative, the government will also formulate a revenue-sharing model scheme for the heritage homeowners to ensure sustainable upkeep and involvement of the owners.
“The heritage homes are a vital part of Goa’s identity. Through this scheme, we aim not just to preserve them, but also to ensure that they contribute meaningfully to local culture and tourism,” said Phal Dessai.
The move is expected to boost heritage tourism and generate local employment, while protecting Goa’s unique Indo-Portuguese architecture.
