“Goa Govt is working tirelessly to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention. Let us work hand in hand to eradicate the illicit drug trade to protect our youth and future generations and make Goa a Drug-Free State,” said Sawant.
He further said that International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking is dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating impact of drug abuse and illegal drug trade on individuals, families, and communities.

A senior police official explained the rise in drug haul cases by saying, “The increased drive against the drugs menace is responsible for the increase in seizures.” In addition to the tourism belt, villages have recently received more attention.
According to the records, the annual percentage of locals arrested for drug-related offences is approximately 30%.
Thus far this year, the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of the Goa police has seized drugs worth ~3.82 crore, out of the approximately 153 kg of various types of drugs that have been seized by the police and valued at approximately `5.28 crore.
