RIBANDAR: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that Goa has the highest crime detection rate of 93 per cent in the whole country while urging the citizens not to fall prey to any online methods of fraud.
Chief Minister Sawant was speaking at the inauguration of the Cyber Lab at the Cyber Police Station at Ribandar.
“As a home minister, I am very proud that Goa has the highest rate of crime detection in the country, that is 93 per cent. All the departments have been doing a commendable job in detection and solving different cases,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that in 2020, the cybercrime had 24 cases registered, of which 14 cases were detected, and 10 are under investigation. Similarly, in 2021, 16 cases were registered, of which 10 were detected, and 6 are under investigation.
“People of Goa should be vigilant and do not share any details of personal documents or bank details to any people, which can eventually lead to frauds,” he said.
Sawant disclosed that he himself was once a victim but was brave enough not to give out any personal details.
Sawant also said that the state police force had topped national charts related to efficient crime detection and added that the Goa Police would henceforth focus its energies on crime prevention.
“The Home department will come up with several initiatives for women’s safety as soon as possible,” Sawant also said.
He also lauded the state police for topping the national crime record charts vis a vis crime detection rate.
“We have the highest crime detection rate in the country. But we need (to focus on) the prevention of crime. We need to work on prevention. No doubt, you are detecting crime. But you will say, how can we prevent crime. It is possible,” the CM said.
