PANAJI: Goa is looking to strengthen its tourism links with Central Asia as Manohar International Airport at Mopa received its first charter flight from Almaty, Kazakhstan, for the Winter 2026–27 season on Monday, bringing 177 passengers to the coastal state.
The arrival marks the beginning of seasonal charter operations at Mopa for the winter period and highlights the growing importance of international air connectivity in Goa’s efforts to attract visitors from overseas markets.
While charter flights to Goa through other airports have already begun for the season, the arrival from Almaty represents the first charter operation of the winter season at Manohar International Airport, providing fresh impetus to the state’s outreach in Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asian region.
Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte said the arrival was an encouraging development as Goa prepared to welcome international visitors during the winter months. He said the state remained focused on expanding its presence in overseas markets and showcasing its cultural heritage, diverse attractions and hospitality.
The focus on Kazakhstan comes as Goa seeks to broaden its tourism appeal beyond the traditional beach holiday experience. The state offers a combination of heritage, spirituality, cuisine, nature and cultural activities that tourism officials hope will encourage visitors to explore destinations and experiences across Goa.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the first charter arrival from Almaty had added momentum to the state’s international tourism outreach. He said improved air connectivity from markets such as Kazakhstan could make Goa more accessible to international travellers and support efforts to promote its wider tourism offerings.
The arrival also places Mopa in focus as Goa prepares for the peak winter travel period, when international visitor movement and seasonal charter operations become important components of the tourism sector.
As the Winter 2026–27 season progresses, Goa is continuing to engage with international travel partners and promote its diverse attractions to overseas audiences. The first charter flight from Almaty provides a fresh opening for the state to strengthen its tourism links with Central Asia while expanding the role of Manohar International Airport in international visitor arrivals.
