New Delhi: Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries and Director of Jio Platforms, invoked the legacy of his grandfather and Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani while reflecting on Jio’s journey during its IPO listing ceremony on Wednesday. He described the occasion as a moment of gratitude to millions of customers whose trust helped the digital services company reach this milestone.
Opening his address with a message of gratitude, Anant said the ringing of the stock exchange bell held deep personal significance for him. He described business as a form of worship and declared that Jio was now being shared with India.
Recalling Dhirubhai Ambani’s humble beginnings in Chorwad and his early days working at a petrol pump in Aden, Anant said his grandfather demonstrated how an ordinary Indian could pursue extraordinary ambitions. He also highlighted his father Mukesh Ambani’s vision of ensuring that India remained competitive globally.
Anant recalled how Mukesh built the world’s largest refinery complex on the previously barren land of Jamnagar, demonstrating India’s industrial capabilities. He then connected that ambition to the creation of Jio, which sought to bring internet access within the reach of people across the country, including those living in remote villages.
He acknowledged his sister Isha Ambani for planting the initial idea behind the digital dream and his brother Akash Ambani for carrying it forward.
Describing Jio’s impact, Anant highlighted how digital connectivity has enabled students to continue learning during school closures, families to remain connected through video calls and people in smaller towns to reach wider audiences through online platforms.
He also pointed to the role of connectivity in helping soldiers communicate with their families and doctors treat patients across geographical distances.
According to Anant, Jio has become an essential part of India’s digital transformation, supporting aspirations across communities and professions.
He expressed gratitude to Jio’s 530 million customers, crediting them for building the company through their trust. He also acknowledged the contribution of field workers, technicians, engineers, service staff, store teams, retail partners and their families.
Concluding his remarks, Anant reaffirmed the family’s commitment to future ambitions while emphasising the values that continue to guide Reliance: Dhirubhai Ambani’s vision, the blessings of his grandmother, Mukesh Ambani’s guidance and his mother’s emphasis on humility and care.
