MORMUGAO: On the occasion of Shiva Jayanti, a grand ceremony was held at Chicalim, home to Goa’s tallest statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, where Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar performed an abhishek. During this event organized by the Murgao Hindu Samaj, Salkar stressed the necessity of incorporating the values and achievements of Shivaji Maharaj into the school syllabus.
Salkar highlighted the multifaceted legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, who was not only a brave warrior but also a visionary leader who established swarajya and founded the Indian Navy. He emphasized that the younger generation should be educated about the historical significance of Shivaji Maharaj and his son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, whose contributions have been pivotal in shaping the nation.
The MLA expressed his concern over the current educational system, which he believes fails to adequately acknowledge the sacrifices and achievements of Indian heroes like Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. Instead, he noted that the Mughals often receive more prominence in history textbooks. “Our history books neglect the true legacy of our great warriors. It is time we correct this oversight and ensure our students learn about their real heroes,” Salkar stated.
Salkar assured the gathering that he would raise this issue in the upcoming assembly session, advocating for a more comprehensive inclusion of these historical figures in the school curriculum. “The younger generation must understand the sacrifices that built this nation. I will ensure that our educational system gives due recognition to these great figures,” he affirmed.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from locals, history enthusiasts, and members of the Murgao Hindu Samaj, all supporting Salkar’s demand for a revised history syllabus that accurately reflects India’s rich heritage.
