PANAJI Goa Police held a meeting with rent-a-car and rent-a-bike operators on November 2, chaired by the Director General of Police, Goa. The meeting was attended by around 50 representatives of rental agencies from across the state, along with officials from the Transport Department and senior Goa Police officers.
The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination between the Police, the Transport Department and rental vehicle operators, with various issues concerning the sector discussed by the stakeholders.
On the issue of private vehicles being rented out without authorisation, Goa Police assured the operators that strict action would be taken against those found violating the rules.
Goa Police also offered to develop a digital platform to capture customer details in accordance with the permit conditions prescribed by the Transport Department. The stakeholders agreed to use the proposed platform to authenticate documents submitted by customers hiring rental vehicles.
Regarding the payment of traffic fines in different jurisdictions across Goa, Transport Department officials agreed to examine the possibility of centralising the payment process for rental agencies. This would help operators avoid travelling across the state to pay traffic challans.
The operators were advised to collect and maintain relevant customer details as required under Transport Department policy and ensure courteous behaviour towards tourists. They were also encouraged to install GPS devices in all their rental vehicles.
The meeting provided valuable feedback to Goa Police and the Transport Department, which is expected to help improve police response and guide future policy decisions concerning the rental vehicle sector.
