PANAJI: The workers employed in Public Works Department (PWD) held a protest before the office of the Principal Chief Engineer (PCE) of the Public Works Department (PWD), demanding immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission’s benefits to all the workers employed in PWD through the PWD Labour Supply Society.
The Dharna also highlighted the other pending issues/grievances of the workers employed in the “PWD Labour Supply Society”.
“As an immediate relief, pay all contract workers employed under PWD Labour Supply Society’ Equal Pay for Equal Work’ for all categories of work at par with other permanent government employees employed in Public Works Department (PWD) along with periodic revision in Dearness Allowance and other attendant benefits such as paid leave Bonus, etc.,” said the workers.
They also said that all those workers/employees employed in PWD Labour Supply Society be paid a Bonus at par with other Government employees or in the alternate, the workers/employees be paid Statutory Bonus in accordance with the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 for each year, effective from the year 2013 till the financial year ending 2020 – 2021.
“The workers working in PWD labour supply society are denied the benefits of medical facilities. We have demanded that all the workers be granted the benefits of medical facilities as provided to the Class – IV category of Government employees,” they added.
The workers further demanded that the issue of workers’ correction in their grades and designations be resolved immediately and necessary corrections are carried out in the individual designation, grade and pay scales of each eligible workman from the time of grant of “temporary status.”
“All those workers who are working in the sewage treatment plants and in hazardous work operations must be provided safety- wear and safety equipment to safeguard their health and safety,” they added.
