PANAJI: After a five-day wait, the government has successfully opened the blocked gates of Amthane Dam in Bicholim, bringing an end to the water problems in Bardez taluka in North Goa.
Authorities said that by this evening, the Bardez taluka would receive its share of drinkable water once the dam’s water is released to the Assonora water treatment facility.
In order to unlock the blocked gate, the Water Resources Department (WRD) had to enlist Indian Navy divers.
“I kept a careful eye on the Amthane dam problem. The gate has been repaired, and water from the dam was released this morning. By evening, the water supply shortage in Bardez will be fully resolved,” said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Due to an unexpected break in the main canal of the Tillari dam in Kudashe, Maharashtra, last Friday, Bardez, which includes important coastal regions, has been experiencing a water crisis.
To offer some respite, the government make sure that tankers deliver water to the taluka.
Authorities in Maharashtra have promised to finish the canal restoration project in three days, and the work is now proceeding at a rapid pace.
