Panaji: Goa suffered a 125 run defeat against Odisha in the Colonel C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite Under 23 four day cricket tournament at the Goa Cricket Association ground in Sanguem on Friday.
Chasing a target of 321 runs, Goa were bowled out for 195 in 67.4 overs in their second innings. Resuming the fourth day at 3 for 2, Goa struggled against Odisha’s disciplined bowling attack and lost wickets at regular intervals.
Nightwatchman Vinayak Kunte showed determination at the crease, facing 101 deliveries to frustrate the opposition bowlers. However, his dismissal alongside Jeevankumar, who failed to open his account, left Goa in deep trouble at 60 for 6.
Captain Aryan Narvekar, who scored 21, and Anuj Yadav, who contributed 40, attempted to revive the innings with a 64 run partnership for the seventh wicket. Their dismissals in successive overs dealt a major blow to Goa’s hopes of saving the match.
Deep Kasvankar continued the resistance with a fighting 48, striking six boundaries. He combined with Shivenn Borkar, who remained unbeaten on 14, to add 61 runs and delay Odisha’s victory. However, the lower order could not sustain the fight as Odisha completed a convincing win.
Sarthak Panda led Odisha’s bowling effort in the second innings, claiming four wickets for 70 runs. Sambit Beja and Abhishek Singh picked up two wickets each, while Sujal Singh and Ashutosh Marandi claimed one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Odisha were dismissed for 199 in their first innings before Goa responded with 253 to secure a 54 run lead. Odisha made the most of their second innings, declaring at 374 for 6 to set Goa a challenging target of 321 runs.
Goa’s batting resistance proved insufficient against Odisha’s bowling attack, as the visitors secured a comprehensive victory in the four day encounter.
