PORVORIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte today held a meeting with the senior officers of the government departments regarding pre-monsoon preparedness.
During the course of discussions, Khaunte instructed the authorities of the panchayats and the Water Resources Department (WRD) to undertake the work of desilting drains, gutters and nullahs before the onset of the monsoon.
The issues pertaining to the works to be carried out by PWD, electricity, fire, emergency services, and other concerned departments were discussed during the meeting.
Further, the minister directed all the concerned departments to gear up their machinery and take all the necessary precautions to deal with any eventualities during the monsoon.
“We will be activating the helplines. Through social media and local channels, the helpline numbers would be publicized. The citizens would be given the first point of contact during disaster management,” he said.
“We will also raise state disaster response scheme. The police department is already working on designing an organizational structure for the force. Fire service has also drawn the plan,” Khaunte added.
During April-May gram sabha meetings, panchayats should take up disaster management as one of their agenda to create awareness among the people
