Vasco: GOACAN on Thursday morning organised the first meeting of the Mormugao block committee for Vector-borne diseases control at Vasco.
Speaking to the media, GOACAN coordinator Roland Martin said that the Mormugao Block committee meeting was held to prevent vector-borne diseases
“GOACAN has arranged the block meeting across the state to garner the support of all the main departments like PWD, WRD, Panchayats, and Municipalities to support the doctors in the campaign to reduce vector-borne disease. This is the first meeting that is held every quarter where we discussed the collaboration of departments and other organisations like MPA, and GSL to conduct programs on vector-borne diseases. 25th April is World Malaria Day and we are discussing how we can harness the potential of this committee while the block addresses the issues of the Vasco City with the help of the Municipality and Panchayats of the entire Mormugao Taluka. We are planning to get the public to participate in the programs and discuss how to tackle and prevent vector-borne diseases ” said Martin
Health officer, Dr Manguirush Audi said that the block-level meeting discussed the planning for preventing dengue and malaria cases during monsoons and pre-monsoons.
“We had all the departments involved in the meeting and we will start our Malaria program along with Municipality and Panchayats on World Malaria Day on April 25th. We plan to clear the areas of breeding hotspots, especially at locations where water is stored outside during the summer season. We will conduct activities where we will explain the details of vector-borne diseases and preventive measures to the people along with municipal councillors and ward panch members of every area we visit. We will also collect tyres and other materials lying in the open which has to be done in the summer before rainwater can accumulate and cause breeding hotspots. We have good control over the disease this year compared to last year and the cases reported this year are in single-digit numbers compared to last year. However since the monsoon is about to start, we have to increase our activity in coordination with the Municipality so that the figures go down,” said Audi.
