MARGAO: As part of his ongoing efforts to connect with the people of Goa, Governor Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai undertook the fourth round of his “Khushal Kalyan Yatra” on Tuesday, covering key locations in Salcete taluka including Margao, Assolna, Benaulim, Varca and Fatorda. The First Lady of Goa, Smt. Rita Sreedharan Pillai, accompanied him on the yatra.
Since taking office in 2021, Governor Pillai has embarked on various people-centric initiatives such as the ‘Goa Gram Sampurna Yatra’, ‘Saimik Daiz Yatra’, ‘Dweep Parichay Yatra’ and ‘Goa Giriarohan Yatra’. The recently launched “Khushal Kalyan Yatra” focuses on visits to places of worship across Goa, where the Governor offers prayers for the peace, happiness and welfare of Goans and the nation.
The yatra commenced with a visit to Lohia Maidan in Margao, where the Governor was welcomed by South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes, Leader of Opposition Shri Yuri Alemao, MLA Shri Digambar Kamat, and President of the 18th June Kranti Samiti Shri Avinash Shirodkar. Governor Pillai paid homage by laying a wreath at the memorial. South Goa Collector Ms. Egna Cletus, IAS, was also present.
The Governor then visited the Jain Mandir in Margao, where he was received by temple president Shri Shantilal Mehta and was felicitated.
In Assolna, Governor Pillai visited the house of late Dr. Julio Menezes and was welcomed by MLA Shri Cruz Silva and Shri Ravi Menezes. He also toured the ethnographic museums — Goa Chitra, Goa Chakra and Goa Cruti — in Benaulim, where MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas and curator Shri Victor Hugo Gomes received him.
At Varca Church, the Governor was welcomed by Parish Priest Fr. Luis Alvares in the presence of Capt. Venzy Viegas.
The Governor and the First Lady also offered prayers at Shree Vitthal Rakhumai Temple in Margao, followed by visits to Shree Damodar Temple and Bilal Masjid in Fatorda. MLA Shri Vijai Sardessai was present during the Fatorda leg of the visit.
Throughout the yatra, the Governor offered prayers at each religious site, invoking blessings for the overall well-being and prosperity of the people of Goa and the country.
