PANAJI: The Governor of Goa, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, has extended financial assistance from his Discretionary Funds to promote legal education and commemorate the legacy of late Justice H.R. Khanna. An amount of ₹5 lakh each has been sanctioned to Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao, and V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Panaji, for the upgradation of their libraries, specifically to establish a dedicated chair, section, or reading corner in the name of Justice Khanna. Additionally, a financial grant of ₹5 lakh has been provided to the Goa High Court Bar Association, Porvorim, also in his honour.
Justice H.R. Khanna is celebrated for his landmark dissenting judgment in the ADM Jabalpur case during the Emergency, where he upheld the Fundamental Rights of citizens even at the cost of his elevation as Chief Justice of India. His unwavering commitment to the Constitution and judicial independence continues to inspire generations of legal professionals across the country.
