PANAJI: The state governemnt has failed to get any response from private entities to run the state’s only abattoir the Goa Meat complex.
“It was decided to outsource Goa Meat Complex Ltd, Usgao to be operated by private persons. Accordingly, advertisements were placed on Global, National and Local newspapers for undertaking e-tendering. However, there was no response,” said Minister Babu Kavlekar
He further said that Goa Meat Complex Ltd, Usgao is fully operational. The animals are brought for slaughtering by registered traders. As and when the traders bring the animals, the services are provided to them as per law.
“The traders have informed that they are experiencing difficulty in bring animals from neighbouring state of Karnataka due to lockdown conditions and ban imposed by the State,” he said
Kavlekar said that the meat complex is fully operational with150 animals per 8 hours shift.
Quraishi Meat Traders Association of Goa had requested the state government to intervene and prevent the notification of Karnataka Prevention of Slaughters Trade and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2020, besides it has requested the government to restart the functioning of Goa Meat Complex.
The association has given a presentation to chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and prevent the notification.
