PANAJI: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that the state government is planning to get a new law wherein it will be compulsory for bar owners to keep a special driver on their premises to drive back drunk customers.
“We want to bring down the fatalities, and that is the reason the state government is planning to get a new law wherein it will be compulsory for a bar owner to keep a special driver in its premises to drive back customers who are drunk,” said Godinho.
He further said that innocent people have to suffer due to some people who drive rashly on the roads.
Godinho also appealed to the public to come forward to keep Goa safe from accidents, urged them to focus on roads while driving and to follow safe driving techniques.
“Transport Department is marching ahead and doing its best to get most of their services online and congratulated the Officers and the staff of the Transport Department,” he said.
The transport minister said that a special vehicle has been designed by the Transport Department to create awareness on the occasion of Road Safety Week, which will move till October 31.
“Awareness will be spread across the State through street plays, film on screens and other means. Special chariots have been set up to convey the message that helmet and headgears are of utmost importance while riding two-wheelers,” he added.
