CANACONA – Government (Tourism Department) sponsored Shigmosthav Floats will be organized by Canacona Shigmosthav Mandal and Canacona Municipoal Council, will be held on April 2.
Unlike everyyear, the concluding program of the Shigmosthav Floats will be held at Kadamba Bus – Stand, Chaudi, against the normal practice of holding the concluding function at Shri Gaitonde Grounds. The organising committee has also decided to wind-up the floats and the concluding prize distribution function by 10 pm in view of the Code of Conduct in force.
The floats procession will be flagged-off at Char Rasta in the presence of CMC Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar, Canacona Deputy Collector Madhu Narvekar and other government officers, informed Canacona Shigmosthav Committee Working President Babesh Borkar at a press meet in Canacona on Friday. Canacona Shigmosthav Committee Secretary Siddharth Desai, Treasurer Subhash Mahale, besides CMC Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar were also present for the press briefing.
Canacona Shigmosthav Committee Working president Babesh Borker informed that since there are complaints that Canacona floats parade route is too long, this year the Floats will be concluded at KTC Bus-stand itself. As the Shigmosthav floats are conducted during the Code of Conduct in force in view of upcoming Lok Sabha polls, no politicians inlcuidng the Canacona MLA/GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar or any elected representatives are in the guest list. Due to paucity of time, no fancy dress competition will be held this year, howver, this years Canacona Shigmosthav Floats will have a special attraction in the form of an All Women Romtamell of by Women belongs to Canacona Taluka.’
Giving further details CMC Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar informed that the procession will be started at Char Rasta at around 3.30 pm and it will be strictly concluded at around 10 pm in view of election commission strictures of the Code of Conduct in force. ‘All the participating Romatamel, Chitrarath, Folk-Dance teams and Individual Fancy-Dress (Senior and Junior categories) participants are requested to do in-advance registrations and cooperate in concluding the procession by 10 pm. Registrations until 5 pm on the day will be allowed. They are requested to give their entries well before time’, Dessai appealed.
Treasurer Mahale informed, ‘The registration process will be started from 3 pm in the makeshift office to be opened Char Rasta. Participating teams are also required to attach the back account details of the team leader or Groups/Association along with their registration form along with Aadhaar card and Pre-receipt. The registration room will be closed after 6.30 pm.’-
