Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not to politicise the crucial covid vaccination camps, while blaming the current government for second covid wave in the state.
Khaunte said that the repetitive pleadings to the state government for imposing restrictions in the wake of rising number of cases fell on deaf ears as CM Dr Pramod Sawant pointed out to the economic reasons.
The Porvorim MLA said that the state government is busy diverting attention of the people from rising covid19 cases in the state through “Tika Utsav” initiative.
Khaunte said that while the central government’s initiative is a welcome step as more people will be vaccinated, the attempts by BJP to take political mileage out of it is “deplorable.”
He said that the impression is being created that the vaccines are provided by BJP, while in reality, it is a central government sponsored program where funds are provided from tax payers’ contribution.
Khaunte demanded that the state government, cutting across political lines, should involve the local Panchayats and panch members in “Tika Utsav” rather than making it look like BJP mandal activity.
He pointed out that while Salvador do Mundo panchayat has held camp on Friday, just few metres away BJP’s local unit is planning another camp in next couple of days.
Khaunte said that the BJP leaders should have joined forces with the local panchayats rather than trying to hold another camp.
The Porvorim MLA expressed worries over the increasing number of hospitalisation due to which the patients are seen on stretchers waiting for the beds. He said that the new Super Speciality Block, which is ready for inauguration, should be dedicated to covid19 treatment.
He said that despite vaccination, the number of covid cases are on rise, which means that “something is wrong.”
Khaunte said that along with Chief Minister , Health Minister Vishwajit Rane should also be blamed for the current crisis in the state.
