PANAJI: Goa State Pharmacy Council (GSPC) has warned to suspend or cancel the registration of such pharmacists who were found advertising discounts on medicines through signboards or social media.
“Council has received complaints that some of the owners of medical stores put boards at conspicuous place/s at their premises and also through social media to offer discounts to attract consumers/patients for purchase of medicines from them,” said GSPC in a press statement.
In addition to urging stakeholders to abstain from these unethical practices, the council has decided to take strong action.
The Pharmacy Practice Regulations 2015 and the Pharmacy Act 1948 are violated by this practice, the council noted, and pharmacists who do not comply risk having their registration suspended or revoked.
Additionally, the GSPC emphasized that these kinds of incentives cause medical retailers to engage in unhealthy competition.
In the meantime, the Goa Medical College has implemented a token number system via the Queue Management System (QMS) for OPD patients who visit the Super Specialty Block.
The circular states that on all OPD days, token numbers must be distributed at 8 a.m. According to the GMC circular issued in this regard, the patients would then be enrolled at the appropriate OPD registration counters. The circular further states, “This is in accordance with the OPD registration timing followed at Goa Medical College & Hospital.”
