Panaji: Gujarat mounted a strong fightback in their second innings against Goa on the third day of the Dr Capt K Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament, reaching 246 for six at the close of play at the Bala Gangadharanatha Swamy School Ground in Bengaluru.
Gujarat began the day on 264 for six from their first innings and eventually finished on 249 all out. Goa then produced a commanding batting performance, scoring 386 to take a substantial 137 run first innings lead.
The Gujarat batters responded positively in their second innings and reduced the deficit. Smit Patel anchored the recovery with a patient 71 from 153 deliveries, while Jaymeet Patel added 63 off 94 balls. His innings included two fours and two sixes.
Vedant Trivedi contributed 31, while Manan Hingrajia scored 30 as Gujarat steadily built their second innings total. At stumps, Gujarat had reached 246 for six from 61 overs, giving them an overall lead of 109 runs.
Goa’s bowlers managed to keep the pressure on, with Yash Kasvankar emerging as the leading wicket taker. He finished with three wickets for 54 runs. Lalit Yadav, Darshan Misal and Abhinav Tej Rana picked up one wicket each.
With only four Gujarat wickets remaining, the final day could prove decisive. Goa will look to wrap up the innings quickly and chase whatever target is set. Gujarat, meanwhile, will aim to add as many runs as possible and give their bowlers a defendable total.
