New Delhi: India have strengthened their squad ahead of the third and final ODI against Afghanistan with the inclusion of fast bowler Harshit Rana, who has returned after completing his recovery from a knee injury.
The 24 year old pacer has linked up with the Indian team in Chennai after successfully finishing his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. His return comes as a timely boost for the national side, which has already secured the three match series with victories in the opening two encounters.
Rana had been sidelined since suffering a knee injury during a warm up match against South Africa before the T20 World Cup 2026. The setback forced him to miss the entire tournament, which India eventually won by defeating New Zealand in the final. The injury also kept him out of action during the Indian Premier League season for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Having completed his rehabilitation programme, Rana is now back in contention for international cricket and could feature in Saturday’s match as India look to complete a clean sweep against Afghanistan.
Since making his ODI debut, Rana has represented India in 14 one day internationals, claiming 16 wickets at an average of 27.38. His economy rate of 6.21 has highlighted his ability to contain opposition batters while providing crucial breakthroughs. His most recent appearance for India came during the home T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year.
The fast bowler’s return is also significant with India’s upcoming white ball assignments on the horizon. Rana has already been named in the squad for the tours of Ireland and England, where India are scheduled to play seven T20 internationals.
For the final ODI, India will be led by Shubman Gill, with Shreyas Iyer serving as vice captain. The squad also includes experienced names such as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh as the hosts aim to finish the series on a winning note.
