CANACONA: With the turnout of as many as 28114 electorates, voters seems to have turned Canacona’s ‘Khatkhate’ to ‘Kichdi’ amidst claims of widely divisive votings, even as taste and quality will be known only on 10th March, even as 8 candidates are keeping their fingers crossed over the outcome of results.
Females outnumbering their male counterparts 13228 (Males) and 14886(Females) (28114 @ 82.11%) turning up to cast their votes at the polling booths in Canacona, have now sealed the fate of 8 candidates out of which 6 have claimed to snatch the victory and represent Canacona in Goa Legislative Assembly.
In a postive vibe, former Minister and BJP candidate Ramesh Tawadkar claims a no-challenge and one-side win for him and sees no other candidates are coming even close to his victory margin.
Claiming a lead in Municipality, Gaondongrim, Khotigao, Shrishthal and Poinguinim, Tawadkar claims his victory will depict a one-way fight polling more than 10,500-11,000 votes out of 28114 votes polled on Monday. The break- up of votes likely to be polled by Tawadkar will be Gaondongrim-1700, Khotigao -900, CMC-3300, Agonda -700, Poinguinim -1500, Loliem-750, Shrishthal -1500.
Interestingly, Congress candidate Janardhan Bhandari expects 12000 votes, more votes than what Tawadkar camp has calculated following the end of Polling on Sunday,
Independent candidates Isidore Fernandes and Vijay Poi Khot, both of whom are BJP rebels, and many political pundits anticipating them as two main frontrunners at the Sunday concluded polls, also expects victory seperately.
‘lots of silent voting that took place on Sunday will benefit these two candidates with an upper hand to Isidore, as Isidore’s wave at Gaondongrim, Khotigao and his home village Loliem-Polem is expected, is expected to overshadow the likely leads to be taken by Vijay Poi Khot at Shrishthal and Canacona Municipality.
While Poi Khot is also expected to make inroads at BJP stronghold in Poinguinim, Isidore is expected garner second place at Municipality, Shrishthal and Agonda panchayat areas throwing a serious gauntlet to Tawadkar’s and Vijay’s vote share.
Congress Bhandari, besides TMC’s Mahadev Dessai is also expected to eat out a major chunk of Municipal votes, effectively lessening the vote share if Congress.
Infact, votes polled in Canacona municipality are likely to be shared evenly between BJP, Congress, Isidore, Poi Khot, and TMC, while a small chunks of votes could shared by Revolutionary Goans Prashant Pagi and AAP ‘s Adv Anoop Kudtarkar, even as Pagi and Kudtarkar are expected to eat on the total vote share in their home villages of Poinguinim and Loliem-Polem, respectively.
While 6 of the eight candidates, including RG’s Prashant Pagi, expects victory with BJP’s Tawadkar one-sided victory, two remaining candidates, including the independent candidate Kanay Pagi seems to have foresighted their victory claims after the elections got over on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, election staff working in Returning Officer office worked as early as 7 am on Tuesday with some of the drivers on election duty reaching their residences only by 8 am.
