Panaji: A three day Hockey India Coaching Educational Pathway Workshop began in Goa on Wednesday, bringing together hockey coaches, physical education teachers and aspiring trainers to enhance their technical knowledge and coaching skills.
Organised by Goans Hockey in collaboration with Hockey India, the workshop is being held from July 23 to 25 with the objective of improving coaching standards and supporting the long term development of hockey in the state.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Ajay Gaude, Director of Sports and Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, who attended as the chief guest. Also present were Raju Pawar, Assistant Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, office bearers of Goans Hockey, senior coaches, former players and hockey enthusiasts from across the state.
Addressing the participants, Dr Gaude highlighted the importance of continuous learning for coaches, stating that well trained coaches play a crucial role in developing talented athletes and strengthening the sport at every level. He praised Hockey India and Goans Hockey for organising the initiative and encouraged participants to embrace modern coaching techniques to help raise the standard of hockey in Goa.
The technical sessions are being led by Abhishek Mishra, a Hockey India educator, former Indian national hockey player, FIH Hockey Developer and FIH Level 4 and Goalkeeper Coach. Participants are receiving training in modern coaching methodologies, athlete development, tactical planning, technical skills and internationally recognised coaching practices.
The workshop has drawn coaches and aspiring trainers from different parts of Goa, reflecting the growing interest in improving the quality of hockey coaching in the state. By equipping participants with updated knowledge and practical skills, the initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the development of grassroots hockey and create a stronger foundation for nurturing future talent in Goa.
