PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the Education Department has not stopped third language under the National Education Policy (NEP).
Congress MLA Altone D’Costa questioned the government over the phasing out of 3rd lang.
“We haven’t stopped the third language under NEP: French, Portuguese and German. Those students of Class IX who opted for this are allowed to continue,” said Sawant.
Sawant said that they have not removed 3rd languages which include French Portuguese and German from the syllabus, it has been continued.
“We need to create good infrastructure in schools, also need to give equipment which is required in a government school, in another one year it will be implemented, in aided school it’s their responsibility to enhance the infrastructure in their schools,” said Sawant.
MLA Altone said that there is anxiety among the parents about the lack of implementation of NEP.
“We have to train our kids in foreign languages like Portuguese, and French under NEP, there should be 3rd language option for students,” said D’Costa.
CM also said that the first phase of training for school teachers is over and they were sent for training at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.

MLA Carlos said that they do not oppose NEP and only want assurance about the proper implementation of NEP.
“This is about the future of students and teachers of Goa. If NEP is hurried, then NEP will be buried,” said MLA Carlos.
Chief Minister also refuted allegations of NEP’s hurried implementation. He said that the state government is serious about NEP.
Sawant said that NEP 2020 being implemented in Goa is as per the original document of NEP 2020 envisioned by Govt. Of India.
“Based on this document, recommendations given by the Committees established at the State Level, and guidelines issued by UGC, NITI Aayog and Ministry of Education (Govt. of India) from time-to-time, Goa specific roadmap for higher education has been prepared,” he added.
CM said that this process of implementation will be continued for the higher classes of each stage and will be implemented in all classes up to Class XII by the year 2027-2028. At Higher Education For higher education, NEP 2020 has been implemented for all General Education colleges from academic year 2023-24 onwards.
