PANAJI: During the hearing of the Suo Moto PIL concerning the recent incident of dead fish floating in Mala Lake, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) informed the High Court that inspections carried out in the surrounding area revealed seven residential houses discharging sewage illegally into the lake.
According to the submission made before the Court, the illegal sewage outlets identified during the inspection have already been sealed to prevent further contamination of the water body. The High Court also directed the concerned house owners to apply for proper sewage connections through the competent department at the earliest.
The inspection further uncovered a damaged sewage pipeline in the locality, which was reportedly causing sewage overflow into the lake. Authorities informed the Court that repair work on the damaged line would be completed within one week.
Taking note of the submissions, the High Court has posted the matter for further hearing on June 9, 2026.
