PANAJI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa today has issued a warning of heatwave conditions at isolated places in Goa for today and tomorrow.
“There is a possibility of heatwave conditions over Goa on March 8 and 9”, says IMD.
IMD said that maximum temperatures will likely remain 4 to 6 C higher than normal during the next two days.
However, temperatures will fall gradually by 2-3 degrees from March 11 onwards, says IMD.
The maximum temperature recorded for the last 24 hrs in Panaji was 37 °C which is +4.6 degrees higher than normal, and 37.8 °C in Mormugao, which is +6 degrees higher than normal.
The heat wave conditions are attributed to the strengthening of Easterly winds, clear sky conditions, and delay in the setting time of sea breeze.
In its latest forecast, IMD has alerted of a rise in Temperature in southwest Rajasthan, pockets of Gujarat, Jammu, Himachal, and Uttarakhand for the next two days.
The weather forecasting agency observed a maximum Temperature of 26-29 degrees celsius over many parts of Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The maximum temperature range was above normal by 6-11 degrees Celsius. IMD predicted a fall in Temperature in the region from Monday onwards.
