PANAJI: The ruling and opposition MLAs gave a miss to the crucial discussion on Mhadei organized by the Legislative Forum. Except for BJP Premendra Shet, none from the current Legislative Assembly were present.
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and Deputy Joshua D’Souza were present for the discussion.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was also not present for the discussion. None among the two MPs- Vinay Tendulkar and Francisco Sardinha were part of it.
Several ex-MLAs expressed their view on the issue and urged the Government to take everyone on board to ensure that the Mhadei water is not diverted. They clearly believed that all political parties and citizens should be united.
They also demanded that Assembly be suspended, with no functioning until the Mhadei issue is resolved.
Speaker Tawadkar said that the resolution and views expressed here would be submitted to the Government for implementation.
Former MLA and Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan leader Nirmala Sawant slammed Government for lack of will to fight the case.
She said that Government remained silent when the Mhadei Tribunal award was notified by the Centre and also when Karnataka submitted a revised DPR.
“Govt has the power, but there is no will. No desire,” she said.
Even ex-MLA Naresh Sawal said that everyone would stand with the Government if they showed the earnest desire to fight to protect Mhadei.
