CANACONA: Stating I.N.D.I.Alliance will continue to work together in Canacona, the alliance leaders congratulated MP Elect Capt Viriato Fernandes and regretted their all-out efforts within the available fewest of the days, could not garner the at least 3000 votes in Canacona .addressing a news conference on Friday, INDI Alliance Spokesperson Vikas Bhagat lamented th stated that congress candidate Viriato Fernandes infact got lesser number of votes than their expectations, due to late declaration of INDIA candidate and the paucity of time to approach the electorate. ‘We got about 300 lesser votes in Agonda(INDIA lead by 131 votes, over 500 votes less in Canacona municipality (BJP took an unassailable lead of over 2944 votes), we were supposed win in Shristhal by over 300 votes (BJP lead by 717 votes), Poinguinim over 500 votes less (BJP lead of 1401), Loliem-Polem about 400 less (BJP lead 792, Gaondongrim also over 400 less (BJP lead of 758), and Khotigao about 200 less (BJP lead of 744). Though we were expecting over 11,000 votes, we got only 9134 votes. The reason for getting these fewer votes also rests on us as initially there was a delay in announcement of candidates and thereafter we also failed to reachout to each and every voter of the constituency. It became impossible to reach out to each of the panchayats, and even corner meetings could not be held as we should have held a few more.Only one public meeting with the candidate was held at Chaudi. However, people have shown their faith in INDI Alliance, as in 2022 we got 5600 plus votes ,which we increased by 75-80% for Parliamentary polls.(9134).
‘In future, we will continue with the works of our INDI Alliance with our target for 2027. We will continue to take on the issues of the people be it water-supply, Power-supply, Roads, etc. Whatever and wherever we need to raise our voice, we will raise it for the people’, Bhagat.
Thanking with gratitude all the people of Canacona for braving to vote for congress candidate VCapt Viriato Fernandes, congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, said, BJP and particularly Speaker used all the government machinery and strength, took every local elected persons in their stride, besides Chief Minister himself on 3-4 campaigning visits, Speaker himself and various ministers on campaign visits to hoodwink the electorate, we kept the INDIA flag high and people has still voted for INDIA candidate.’
Ex-Shristhal Sarpanch and Goa Forward Leader Pandurang (Datta) Gaonkar, who had just before election ditched BJP to join in INDI Alliance campaign thanked all the ST voters for standing with and voting for Capt Viriato.
Congress (South) Organization General Secretary Gaspar Countinho, thanking the people of Canacona for believing in the alliance and voting for Capt Viriato has stated that the alliance will continue and the alliance will be given a strong INDIA candidate in 2027 assembly polls. Coutinho also assured that issues and problems of Canacona will be taken up by Capt Viriato and solved for the people.
