New Delhi: India produced a commanding performance at the Asian Games 2026, defeating Indonesia 13-1 in a one-sided men’s hockey contest. Dilpreet Singh led the scoring with four goals, while Shilanand Lakra and Sukhjeet Singh added two each.
India made a fast start and opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Harmanpreet Singh’s drag flick was saved by Indonesian goalkeeper Alam Fajar, but Lakra reacted quickly to convert the rebound.
Abhishek doubled the advantage in the 12th minute before Dilpreet struck twice in quick succession. He first finished a pass from Abhishek and then scored again after receiving Sukhjeet’s delivery.
Rajinder Singh added another from a rebound before Mandeep Singh made it 6-0. Harmanpreet then converted a penalty corner in the 28th minute after earlier missing a penalty stroke, giving India a 7-0 lead at half-time.
Indonesia managed a consolation goal through Aulia Al Ardh in the 33rd minute, but India immediately regained control. Lakra scored his second before Dilpreet completed his hat-trick. Sukhjeet then added another field goal as India continued to dominate.
Jugraj Singh converted a penalty corner in the closing stages before Sukhjeet completed his brace. Dilpreet capped his outstanding display by scoring his fourth goal in the 49th minute, completing India’s 13-1 victory.
India’s goals came from nine different players, with Harmanpreet, Abhishek, Rajinder, Mandeep and Jugraj also finding the net.
The Indian team will next face Sri Lanka on Tuesday as it continues its Asian Games campaign.
India and Indonesia also took the field in their new primary saffron kits, marking another appearance of the jerseys that were previously used by both teams at the recent World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium.
