PANAJI:
The new and inexperience Mayor of the Corporation of City of Panaji has completed locked the Panaji CCP Market libing people at lurch even before the 15-day curfew announced by CM is yet to take off.
The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has announced a 15-day lockdown from Sunday May 9 to May 24, 6 am.
The Chief Minister has also announced that the essential commodities and groceries would not be affected as they would remain open till 1.00 pm.
However, the new and inexperienced Panaji Mayor Rohit Monserratte has completely closed down the Panaji Market and all shops, except groceries, have been closed down due to surge in COVID19 cases.
The abrupt decision has taken Panjimites by surprise, who say they have no fish, chicken or vegetables for last two days.
“We have not been informed anything. The CCP workers came and just shut the shops without any notice,“ said a trader, who did not want to be named.
The regular, who came to buy fish and vegetables slammed the Mayor for such a “Childish” decision.
“How can you take such childish decision without applying your mind. The Mayor must has been all stocked up for a month and putting the people at hardships,” said the local Ramesh Naik.
He also questioned the legality of such a closure.
“When CM himself has said that the essentials would be open, what authority does the Mayor have to overrule him,” he stated.
A Panaji councillor also laughed off the decision saying this decision has been taken without applying brains.
“The Mayor should have asked his team, former mayors or atleast his father Babush Monseratte before taking such a decision,” he stated.
